"Boston bombing survivor Adrianne Haslet walked the runway in a high-tech prosthetic leg as she opened and closed for Canadian designer Lesley Hampton at Vancouver Fashion Week.
“What. An. Honor,” Haslet wrote on Instagram of her experience walking in Hampton’s #BeBodyAware show. In effort to exemplify body empowerment, Hampton collaborated with the Be Body Aware project to cast models of all shapes and sizes to promote a future of inclusivity and diversity on the catwalk. The Toronto-based designer stated that Haslet exemplifies everything the Lesley Hampton Label stands for.
“Having her as part of my wolfpack and giving her another chance to tell her story through my designs is an inspiration and an incredible experience,” she said in a press release. “Together with the Be Body Aware project, I am hoping to set as an example for anyone affected by adversity and stand up once again to the fashion standards.”
Haslet lost her left leg below the knee at the 2013 Boston Marathon, after two homemade bombs went off near the finish line. She has since become a global advocate for amputees and inspires thousands across the globe to face life with a unique perspective.
