(VNO) — The father of a northwest Indiana teen who was gunned down three years ago has raised a $5,000 reward encouraging witnesses to come forward.
On July 24, 2011, 17-year-old NeKeisha Hodges-Hawkins was attending a private family party at a local park in Michigan City, Indiana. After an altercation broke out, the party ended, and attendees began to leave. As the people were leaving, a second fight broke out; this time, gunfire was exchanged, and two teenagers were shot.
One, an 18-year-old male, was shot in the leg, and survived. Seventeen-year-old NeKeisha Hodges-Hawkins, one of the party’s guests of honor, died from her injuries. It was four days before her 18th birthday.
There were more than 100 teenagers at that party; and, while many of them witnessed the shooting, not a single person has come forward to make a statement to police regarding the identity of the shooter(s). It is believed by both the victim’s family and the local police department that many witnesses were told by their parents not to get involved..."
